Don’t be Fooled  !!!

Vote No On Measure M

About

The Woodland Floodwall is an ill-conceived taxpayer-financed, pork barrel project that divides our community and favors out-of-area wealthy land speculators and warehouse owners over our small farmers.

Running 5.6 miles west to east along Woodland’s northern border from County Rd. 98 to the Cache Creek Settling Basin, this $300 million boondoggle is designed to back up water from over-topping of the Cache Creek levee and retain it north of the Floodwall instead of allowing it to naturally drain south between County Rd. 102 and the western levee of the Yolo Bypass.

The ostensible reason for the Floodwall is to protect Woodland from flooding in the event Cache Creek over-tops its souther levee and water flows towards Woodland. But Woodland has never flooded in the past!

The real reason for the Floodwall is to pull lands previously designated by the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) in the 100-year floodplain out of the floodplain and, once protected, open them up to rampant speculative commercial and residential development. But in doing so the Floodwall places our small farmers north of the Floodwall in great peril as it could cause a catastrophic back-up of water inundating these prime farmlands with standing water from 1 ft to over 8 ft deep.

Why should our small farmers and taxpayers pay the price so previously flood-prone, unbuildable lands owned by multimillionaires enjoy protection that we all, as taxpayers, pay for. THIS IS JUST NOT FAIR!

No on Measure M is endorsed by the Yolo County Farm Bureau and the Yolo County Taxpayers Association and everyday working Woodland folks and farmers like you.
